About the game
Dế Mèn is a 2D side-scrolling action-adventure about a proud young cricket in the Vietnamese countryside of the 1990s, seen through an insect's eyes: grass is a forest, a bicycle wheel is a tower.
Ten levels run from golden rice paddies at dusk, a house full of giant toys, a lotus pond and a spider-web alley to a lantern market and a stormy dike. Every level ends with a boss whose attacks are telegraphed: read them, then beat them. Three-hit combos, double jumps, dashes, a perfect parry that slows time, and 20 weapons to pick up — from twigs and pebbles to marbles and star lanterns.
Between levels sit an illustrated journey map and the Gốc Đa shop, where the grains you collect buy upgrades and consumables — all earned by playing, with no in-app purchases. The game ships in 12 languages with two difficulty levels, is free to play with ads, and is being prepared for release on Google Play. Artwork and music were created with the help of AI tools.
